A free course in mindfulness for everyday life

You have been running on autopilot your entire life.

An email lands and your body tenses before you have read it. You lose sleep over conversations that have not happened yet. An hour disappears into scrolling on your phone and you do not remember starting. Automated patterns are running beneath your awareness, shaping your relationships, your decisions, and the direction of your life.

Begin With Awareness teaches you to recognize your patterns before they run, understand why they formed, and build the skill that puts you back in the driver’s seat. This course is practical, grounded, and completely free.

* Offered freely in the tradition of teachings shared without a fixed cost, supported by those who find them valuable.

You felt the reaction building and could not slow it down

You could see it coming. You watched it form. And it ran anyway, with or without your permission.

You were calm until you were not, and the shift happened faster than you could track

One moment you were present. The next you were somewhere else entirely, and you are not sure when the handoff happened.

You knew the right move and made the other one anyway

The awareness was there. The understanding was there. Something else moved faster than both of them.

You said something you regretted before you finished saying it

Not because you meant to, but because the automated pattern completed before you were even aware of the choice.

What is actually happening

Your patterns do not wait for you to be ready.

The reaction is already running before you know it started. The tension in your body, the story forming in your mind, the words that came out before you decided to say them. None of that waited for your input. It moved on its own, the way it always moves, the way it has been moving your entire life.

Awareness is the only thing that changes the timing. This course trains it.

"Awareness is the beginning of everything. Without it, change collapses under pressure. With it, change becomes sustainable because it begins in real time."

Klaye Foster — Change Happens Now

The mechanics of automatic reaction

The pattern was named 2,500 years ago.
It still runs in you today.

The Buddha described a six-step sequence he called the Sanskaras: the chain that moves from a single moment of contact all the way to an automatic action, in under two seconds, without awareness ever entering the picture. Modern neuroscience has confirmed every step in its own language.

Mindfulness for everyday life means learning to interrupt this sequence. Not to stop it from starting. To catch it early enough that you are the one who decides how it ends.

1

Contact

Something reaches your senses. A sound. A word. A notification.

2

Sensation

The body responds before the mind has formed a single word.

3

Perception

The mind reaches for the most familiar explanation it has.

4

Feeling Tone

The experience is coded as pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral.

5

Craving

A pull toward or push away forms. The momentum builds.

6

Action

The reaction completes. The pattern deepens by one more repetition.

Where awareness changes everything

"The earlier awareness arrives in the sequence, the more of it belongs to you."

Steps 3 and 4, the perception and the feeling tone, are where most automatic reactions gain their real momentum. Awareness arriving at step 2, the physical sensation in the body, is enough to interrupt the entire chain. This course trains exactly that: the ability to notice the body’s signal before the story hardens and the craving builds. That one skill, practiced consistently, changes how you move through every difficult moment in your life.

- What's Inside This Course -

Three modules. A complete
foundation for intentional living.

When you order today, you receive all three components together. Each one is designed to work with the others.

00

Introduction — The Foundation

Before habits, goals, or direction: attention. This module introduces the core mechanism of change and the ancient sequence that governs every automatic reaction you have ever had.
Why mindfulness for everyday life is the foundation of all change
The Sanskara sequence — all six steps mapped to your real life
How to use this course as training, not content
01

Breaking Autopilot

Up to 45% of your daily actions are running on autopilot. This module shows you exactly how those patterns form, why recognition is the bridge to change, and how a single redirected moment becomes a different direction.
How the brain builds automatic patterns without your permission
Why you can understand a pattern and still repeat it
Strengthening recognition — catching the pattern earlier every time
From recognition to choice: what actually changes in the gap
02

Awareness and Attention

Awareness is the capacity to observe your experience without being consumed by it. Attention is what you build with, every single day. This module makes both of those faculties trainable, practical, and yours.
What awareness actually is — and what it cannot do
How attention shapes your brain, your patterns, and your direction
The Vedantic witness — you are not your thoughts
How awareness and attention combine to change direction
03

Practical Application

Formal practice. Real-life entry points. Nervous system regulation. This module takes everything from the first two and turns it into a daily structure you can actually maintain.
The five steps of formal mindfulness practice
Three real-life entry points: transitions, body signals, listening
The nervous system and why regulation is a prerequisite
The 4-6 breath — your most reliable tool for any moment
+

Bonus Lesson and Closing

A deeper look at emotional regulation and the nervous system, followed by the Awareness Reset Plan: your three-practice daily structure that builds the foundation into a permanent skill.
Emotional regulation and how stress shuts down awareness
The Awareness Reset Plan — three practices, ten minutes a day
Where this foundation leads next

- Why mindfulness for everyday life works -

The Science is not new The application is.

Behavioral science has confirmed what contemplative traditions have taught for thousands of years: the patterns that run your life were built by repetition, and they can be reshaped the same way. The problem has never been understanding that. The problem has been finding a practice that actually makes it practical in a normal, busy, demanding life.

Begin With Awareness is built at the intersection of neuroscience, Buddhist psychology, Stoic philosophy, and the direct, practical experience of someone who has practiced this for nearly twenty years. Not as theory. As a daily discipline that has to hold up under real pressure, in real relationships, in a real life.

Mindfulness for everyday life does not require an hour of quiet time. It requires training a specific skill: the ability to notice what is happening before you react to it, in the middle of whatever is already happening. This course builds exactly that, in ten minutes a day.

90%

of your daily actions are habitual. Performed without conscious deliberation. Research from MIT and Duke University.

8 Min

of consistent daily mindfulness practice produces measurable improvements in sustained attention and working memory, per research in Psychological Science.

2 sec

is how long the Sanskara reaction sequence takes to run from contact to action, without awareness present. This course trains you to interrupt it.

- The mind behind the course

This framework was built
from the inside Out.

Klaye Foster is the founder of The Change System, and by background, a systems engineer. He spent years studying how complex systems are built, how they break, and what it actually takes to change them from the inside. At some point, that same lens turned toward the most compelling and frustrating system he knew: his own mind, his own nervous system, and the invisible patterns shaping how he was moving through his life.

What followed was nearly twenty years of daily practice, deep study at the intersection of behavioral science, neuroscience, ancient philosophy, and Buddhist psychology, and the gradual development of a framework built on one foundational belief: that lasting change requires understanding what is actually happening underneath behavior, not just deciding to do things differently.

Begin With Awareness is the entry point to that framework. It is offered freely because the teachings that shaped it were shared the same way. And because the person who needs this course most is often the one who cannot justify spending money on themselves right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this course really free?

Yes, completely. Begin With Awareness is offered in the spirit of traditional teachings shared openly and sustained by those who find them valuable. There is no charge to enroll, no hidden cost, and no paywall inside the course. If the course is useful to you and you would like to support its continued development, there is an optional donation available. Your contribution allows this work to stay accessible to anyone who needs it.

I have tried meditation before and it did not stick. Why would this be different?

This course is structured differently from most mindfulness programs because it treats awareness as a trainable skill with a specific, practical purpose, not as a state to achieve or a mood to maintain. You are not being asked to achieve calm. You are being trained to notice what is happening before you react to it. That skill has a direct, visible application in your daily life from the very first practice session, which is a very different experience from sitting quietly and hoping something changes.

How much time does this require each day?

The daily practice structure introduced in the course, called the Awareness Reset Plan, is built around three practices that take no more than ten minutes combined. Five minutes of formal practice, one intentional pause at a specific daily trigger, and one honest observation written in your workbook. The course itself can be completed at your own pace. There is no time pressure and no expiration on your access.

Do I need any experience with meditation or mindfulness?

None at all. This course is designed to work for complete beginners as well as for people who have been meditating for years and feel like their practice is not producing real behavioral change. The course explains every concept from the ground up, and the guided meditation recordings are specifically designed for people returning to or beginning a practice for the first time.

How is this connected to the book Change Happens Now?

Begin With Awareness is the introductory course to the complete framework laid out in Change Happens Now. The course builds the foundation: awareness, attention, pattern recognition, redirection, and nervous system regulation. These are the skills that make everything in the book accessible and practical. The book goes further into how patterns compound into identity over time, how to work with resistance, and the full 10-step system for intentional behavioral change. The course is the starting point. The book is the complete map.

What happens after I sign up?

You will receive a welcome email within a few minutes of submitting the form. That email includes your course access link and password. The course is hosted directly on The Change System website. You can download the workbook PDF and the guided meditation audio recordings to your device to use offline at any time. Your access does not expire.

- The practice begins here -

The gap between the life you understand and the life you are living closes here.

Every automatic reaction you have ever wished you could take back ran through the same six-step sequence. You were just not there for most of it. This course puts you back in the room. And it costs you nothing to begin.

This course is offered in the spirit of almsgiving, a tradition across Buddhist, Hindu, and many other contemplative lineages where teachings are shared freely and sustained by those who find them valuable. If Begin With Awareness gives you something real, you are welcome to support its continued development at any time. That link will be inside the course. And if you are ready to go deeper, Change Happens Now is waiting for you.
